Hockey ref takes beer can to genitals; player’s brother arrested for it

Hockey

Dominic Bedard is a referee in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He was officiating a game between the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Feb. 11 when he doubled over in pain, as someone had thrown a can of beer at his crotch.

Allow us to explain.

Bedard had issued a roughing penalty to Francis Perron of the Huskies, which put his team down two skaters. This did not sit well with Perron. No, not Francis Perron, although we assume he wasn’t all that happy with the call – we mean with his 29-year-old brother Alexandre Perron, who was in the stands watching the game from the sixth row.

According to Le Journal De Montreal, after his brother's penalty, Perron launched a “nearly full” can of beer that nailed Bedard in the genitals.

The official left the game briefly, but would return to finish it.

Alexandre Perron was ejected from the arena and arrested by police near the Armada offices. He was released, but must appear before a judge on May 10 and could face assault charges. “For us, it's zero tolerance. Fortunately, it never occurred an event like this before,” said Mario Marois, the vice president of the Armada.

The father of both the player and his beer-tossing guardian angel told the paper that the latter “regrets” his actions. Which is usually what happens when someone is arrested for assault and has wasted a nearly full can of beer. Lots of regret there.

No word if Bedard now falls into the fetal position whenever someone cracks a tallboy.
